We’ve been conditioned to see mental health struggles as flaws to fix, but what if they are actually the breadcrumbs leading us to our true path? In this article, I’m going to take you on a journey—a journey to discover how your mental health challenges are intimately tied to the story you’ve been avoiding. This story is not the narrative of who you’ve been, nor even who you are now, but of who you are meant to become: your Next Level Human self.
The Root of Mental Health Issues: Rejection of the Authentic Self
We live in a world that teaches us to value safety and security above all else. From a young age, we’re conditioned to cling to what’s familiar—whether it’s the comfort of routine or the approval of others. This is the Base Level of human existence. Here, we prioritize control, power, and security, and when life doesn’t go as planned, it triggers a cascade of negative emotions like anger, frustration, and anxiety.
But this isn’t where the story ends. As we grow, we begin to seek acceptance and belonging. We want to fit in, to be liked, and to be recognized. This is the Culture Level, where we conform to societal expectations, often at the cost of our true selves. At this level, mental health issues like anxiety, insecurity, and depression begin to take root, fed by our need to be seen and validated by others.
The true crisis in mental health comes not from these emotions themselves but from what they signify: a rejection of our unique, authentic story. You see, every human is a “purpose potential,” a spiritual fingerprint that has never existed before and will never exist again. There is a job on this planet that only you can do in the way you can do it. But when we reject this purpose—when we refuse to step into our true story—we get stuck. And it’s this stuckness that manifests as mental health struggles.
The Next Level Human Perspective: Moving Beyond Base and Culture Levels
To understand why we get stuck, we need to redefine what it means to be “authentic.” Authenticity isn’t about being true to who you were in the past or even who you are right now. It’s about being true to who you are meant to become—your Next Level Human self.
This future self isn’t a static entity; it’s the evolving, growing version of you that is aligned with your purpose potential. When you deny this evolution, when you cling to safety, security, or the need for acceptance, you remain in the Base or Culture Level, trapped in what I call MUD—Misguided Unconscious Decisions. MUD is the mental and emotional quicksand that keeps you from moving forward, and it’s where the emotions of AFRAID take hold.
The AFRAID Emotions: Signs of Stuckness
AFRAID is an acronym that represents the key emotional states that indicate you are stuck in MUD:
Anger: The inability to let go and move on from past grievances.
Frustration: The inability to act on your true mission.
Resistance: The inability to accept your life as it is, with all its challenges and differences.
Anxiety: The inability to make choices for yourself or own the choices you’ve made, often due to the pressures of cultural expectations.
Insecurity: The inability to believe in yourself and the potential you have for good.
Depression: The inability to trust or find hope, rooted in a disconnection from your purpose.
Each of these emotions carries a story—a story that you’ve been telling yourself, often unconsciously, about who you are and what you’re capable of. These stories are not rooted in truth but in fear, and they keep you stuck in the past or in a version of yourself that no longer serves you.
The FEEL, DEAL, HEAL Process: Healing Through Story
Imagine you cut your thumb. What do you do? You FEEL the pain, DEAL with the wound by cleaning and dressing it, and then you allow it to HEAL. This process is instinctive when it comes to physical injuries, but when it comes to emotional and mental wounds, we often get stuck.
Instead of moving through the pain, we become trapped in one of two states:
Villain (Base Level): A hurt person who hurts others. This is where anger and control issues take over, as you project your pain onto those around you.
Victim (Culture Level): A person who overidentifies with their wounds, defining themselves by their pain and staying stuck in blame, complaint, and avoidance.
But there is a third state—the Victor (Next Level Human)—who acknowledges the pain, owns their story, and uses it to fuel growth and transformation. To become this Victor, you must go through the FEEL, DEAL, HEAL process with your emotional wounds.
FEEL: Acknowledge your emotions without judgment. Understand that these emotions are messages from your true self, guiding you back to your path.
DEAL: Confront and rewrite the story behind the emotion. What is this emotion telling you about your past, your present, and your future? How can you change the narrative to reflect your true potential?
HEAL: Transform the pain into purpose. Use the lessons learned to grow stronger and to help others on their journey.
BEEP as a Path to Subconscious Healing
The challenge with traditional therapy is that it often works at the level of the conscious mind, but the stories that keep us stuck are buried deep in the subconscious. This is where BEEP—Breath Enhanced Emotional Processing—comes in.
BEEP is a revolutionary tool that combines elements of therapy, meditation, and hypnosis to access and heal the subconscious mind. It works on two levels:
Transient Hypofrontality: BEEP induces a state of transient hypofrontality, which reduces activity in the prefrontal cortex—the part of the brain responsible for rational, habitual thinking. This allows you to bypass the critical mind and access deeper emotional states where true healing can occur (Plunge).
Beta to Theta Transition: BEEP also facilitates a transition from beta brainwaves (alert, waking consciousness) to theta brainwaves (relaxed, meditative state). Theta is the state in which MUD—those Misguided Unconscious Decisions—was originally programmed. To change these deeply embedded patterns, you must access the same brainwave state where they were formed.
When combined with Written Exposure Therapy (WET) and coaching, BEEP becomes an incredibly powerful tool for unlocking and transforming the subconscious stories that keep you stuck. It allows you to process and release the emotional MUD that has become cemented in your subconscious, freeing you to step into your Next Level Human self.
