Most people go looking for purpose like it’s a hidden treasure.
As if it’s buried under the right job, the perfect relationship, or some future spiritual awakening. But that’s not how purpose works.
You don’t find it.
You forge it.
In the Next Level Human philosophy, purpose is not something you search for—it’s something you choose and create based on what makes you… you.
Let’s break this down.
The Big Idea: Purpose = The Work Only You Can Do
At its core, purpose is the work only you can do, in the way only you can do it.
Not “work” as in your job.
A job is how you make money.
Work is how you make a difference.
So your purpose isn’t about roles, titles, or outcomes—it’s about how you grow yourself, enrich others, and evolve the world.
You don’t need to be famous, rich, or “successful” to live on purpose.
You just need to show up with intentional energy, authentic example, and a willingness to contribute—even in the smallest of ways.
The 3 Assumptions of Purpose
We call these the Three Assumptions in the Next Level Human work. They are the foundation of all purpose:
1. You Are Unique.
There has never been—and never will be—another you. Your combination of history, perception, and personality is one-of-a-kind.
2. You Have Purpose Potential.
That uniqueness means you’re equipped to do something no one else can do in exactly your way. We call that your Purpose Potential.
3. Your Pain Was the Path & is the Path.
Every wound, mistake, betrayal, and heartbreak you’ve experienced?
It wasn’t random. It prepared you.
Your pain is not the opposite of your purpose—it’s the portal to it.
This is also true of what you are currrently dealing with. Life difficulties can be seen as more than frustrations, they can also be regarded as initiations of purpose.
“The wound is where the light enters,” said Rumi. But it’s also where your light exits.
Your pain becomes your purpose when you stop hiding it and start sharing it—with wisdom.
The 5Ps: How to Choose Your Purpose
You don’t find purpose. But you can make an informed, aligned choice.
Start by reflecting on your 5Ps—the unique building blocks of your Purpose Potential:
1. Passion
What lights you up? What topics, activities, or causes stir your soul—even when they don’t make money?
2. People
Who do you feel called to serve, support, or uplift? Children? Entrepreneurs? Survivors? Artists?
3. Personality (Your Perspective + Perception)
What’s your natural way of seeing the world? Are you a skeptic, a feeler, a teacher, a disruptor? How do you process life?
4. Powers (i.e. Superpowers or Talents)
What skills, gifts, and strengths come naturally to you—or have been forged through discipline and repetition?
5. Pain
What have you suffered through, struggled with, or survived? What have you learned that you could pass on?
The shortcut to purpose is simply this:
Tell the truth about your pain & shame—and pass on the lessons.
That alone can become a life’s work.
Your Big P Purpose is revealed where these five intersect.
Big P Purpose vs Little p Purpose
Let’s make this practical:
Big P Purpose
This is your life’s larger contribution.
It may come through your career, your art, your message, your movement—or even just your healing. It’s your long arc of impact.
Big P Purpose is forged at the intersection of your 5Ps.
It’s where your pain becomes your teaching, your gifts become service, and your story becomes legacy.
Little p Purpose
This is how you bring purpose into your everyday life.
It’s the intentional energy you carry into every room.
It’s the example you set for others—especially when no one’s watching.
It’s the experience you create through the way you listen, speak, move, and love.
Big P Purpose is powered by little p purpose.
You live the larger story by showing up in the small moments.
Purpose Lives Between Love and Hate
Still not sure where to start?
Look at what you love.
Then look at what you hate.
What injustice makes your blood boil?
What beauty moves you to tears?
What themes keep showing up in your attention, your triggers, your dreams?
Purpose often lives in the grey zone between what breaks your heart and what lights it up.
Pay attention to that.
That’s your signal.
The Final Word
Purpose is not something waiting for you out in the world.
It’s waiting inside—asking you to remember, choose, and create.
It’s not selfish. It’s not selfless.
It’s the sacred intersection where your own growth meets the world’s need.
It’s how you learn, teach, and love.
And no one else can do it the way you can.
Try This (Reflection Exercise)
Grab a journal and write down:
A painful moment that shaped you
A passion that still calls to you
A person or group you feel connected to helping
A gift you’ve been told you have
A way of seeing the world that feels uniquely yours
Now ask:
How can I use this to grow myself, enrich others, and evolve the world?
That’s your first draft of purpose.
Now live into it.
