We’ve been sold a lie. A well-intentioned lie, but a lie nonetheless. We’ve been told that if we want to create anything in our lives—success, love, health, happiness—we need to start by taking action. They say it’s cause and effect, plain and simple. We do something, and it leads to a result. Right?
But what if this isn’t how the world really works? What if the truth is that we’ve had it all backward? And that this simple misunderstanding is the reason why our efforts to manifest the lives we desire haven’t worked the way we’ve hoped? Action is critical, of course, but action must be guided by a vision or plan; otherwise, it turns into a wasted movement.
The Myth of Cause and Effect: A Reality Check
Most of us operate from a very basic understanding of how life works. We’re taught to believe that everything is cause and effect. We study hard, and we get good grades. We work out, and we get fit. We save money, and we become wealthy. It’s straightforward, and it makes sense.
But let’s take a closer look. Imagine we wake up one day and decide to go for a hike. We think to ourselves, “I want to hike that beautiful trail I saw last weekend.” What happens next? We get dressed, lace up our hiking boots, grab our car keys, drive to the trailhead, and start hiking. Each step is a cause leading to the effect of us standing on that trail.
Or so we think.
The Reality: Effects Create Causes
Here’s the twist: What if it wasn’t the steps we took that caused us to end up on that trail? What if the trailhead existed in our minds first, and it was that mental image—our imagined effect—that pulled us through all the necessary causes?
Think about it. Before we ever took a single action, we saw ourselves on that trail in our mind’s eye. We didn’t just think about hiking; we felt the fresh air, imagined the scenery, and perhaps even pictured ourselves standing at a specific point on the trail. That mental image, that effect, was so powerful it pulled us through the actions needed to make it real.
In other words, the effect—the image of us on the trail—created the causes.
Imagination: The Master Key to Manifestation
This is where things get interesting. If effects create causes, then the first step in manifesting anything in our lives isn’t action. It’s imagination.
Imagination is more than daydreaming or wishful thinking. It’s the precursor to reality. When we vividly imagine a specific outcome, we create a mental blueprint that our thoughts, feelings, choices, and actions follow. Imagination is the effect that pulls the causes into place.
Consider this: How do cells know to form a heart rather than a lung? How do atoms come together to create a coherent body rather than a random pile of matter? It’s not random. There’s an organizing effect—a vision, if you will—that guides the process.
Why “Fake It Till We Make It” Fails Every Time
Here’s why the popular mantra “fake it till we make it” is flawed. Faking it implies that we’re out of alignment with our authentic selves. We’re pretending to be something we’re not, and our minds know it. When we fake it, we may go through the motions, but our thoughts and feelings aren’t in sync with our actions.
True manifestation requires being—and being is a state of authentic alignment where our thoughts, feelings, choices, and actions are all in harmony. When we’re being, we’re not faking. We’re living, breathing, and believing the outcome we desire with every fiber of our being.
And here’s the kicker: We can’t achieve what we don’t truly believe.
The Ultimate Superpower: Perception
Before we can be a certain way, we first have to see that way. Perception is the ultimate superpower because it shapes our reality. What we perceive, we believe, and what we believe, we become.
But here’s the problem: Most of us are walking around with muddy perceptions—what we call MUD (Misguided Unconscious Decisions). These are the beliefs and stories we’ve picked up along the way, often from childhood or traumatic experiences, that cloud our vision. They’re the mental dirt that obscures our windshield, preventing us from seeing the road ahead clearly.
Clearing the Mud: Rewrite, Rewire, Retrain
So how do we clear the mud and start manifesting the lives we desire? It’s not enough to simply meditate or visualize a better future. We have to go deeper—back to the roots where the MUD was first formed.
Most of our MUD originates in childhood and adolescent development, where wounds, fears, failures, rejections, and traumas take shape. These experiences weigh us down, like the chains and weights Scrooge's old business partner, Cratchit, carried in A Christmas Carol. To move forward, we need to break free from these chains.
At Next Level Human, we call this process Identity Restructuring. It’s the first and most crucial step that most people miss. Without clearing our MUD, no amount of positive thinking or visualization will make a lasting impact.
We’ve developed a proprietary technique that combines breathwork, meditation, and journaling to help us rewrite our story, rewire our brain, and retrain our nervous system:
Rewrite the Beliefs: The first step is clearing the MUD by revisiting the theta brain states prevalent during childhood, where most of our unconscious decisions were formed. This process allows us to confront and rewrite the old stories that have been holding us back.
Rewire the Emotions: Once we’ve cleared the MUD, the next step is to feel into new emotional patterns. Through guided meditation techniques, we can start to embody the feelings associated with our new beliefs, creating a powerful emotional shift.
Retrain the Nervous System: Finally, retrain our nervous system and brain to align with the new vision and beliefs we’ve created. This involves consistent practice and action to reinforce the new patterns and make them a natural part of our being.
The Conclusion: Our Life Is a Mirror
Here’s the truth: Our life is a mirror reflecting back the images we hold in our minds. If we want to change what we see, we have to change the image first.
Remember, life isn’t cause and effect; it’s effect and cause. The effect we hold in our mind pulls the causes into place. Clear the mud, see our desired reality, and watch as the universe conspires to bring it to life.
So, what’s the effect we’re holding in our minds right now? Is it serving us, or is it time for a new vision?
The choice is ours.
